Basic Golf Rules & Etiquette

(a.k.a. How to Be a Great Course Buddy)

Always use the tee box for your first shot of every hole.
Each tee box is clearly marked as your beginning spot. Check out these tips for hitting your ball where you want it to go!

Play it where it lies.
Once your ball lands, try to play it from that spot—no moving it unless you're taking a penalty drop or avoiding something unsafe.

Don’t know which club to use?
Generally you will use your pitching wedge on the fairway and rough, and your putter on the greens.

One club length rule (for casual play).
If your ball lands somewhere unplayable (in thick bushes or on a path), feel free to move it one club length to a better spot—just no closer to the hole.

Be mindful of pace.
Play at a steady pace and be ready for your turn. If a group behind you is moving faster, feel free to let them play through.

Yell “Fore!” if needed.
If your ball heads toward someone, give a loud "Fore!" to warn them. It’s the polite (and safe) thing to do.

Respect the course.
Don’t tear up the greens or throw clubs—fix ball marks & divots and leave it better than you found it.

Keep quiet during someone’s swing.
Give your fellow players a moment of silence when they’re lining up a shot. It helps everyone focus.

Don’t take yourself too seriously.
This is short and sweet golf—it's okay to laugh at bad shots, take a mulligan (or two), and just enjoy the game.

Share the space.
Pitch and Putt is for everyone, from total beginners to seasoned players. Be friendly, patient, and welcoming.

Dress comfortably, act respectfully.
No dress code here—just wear what feels good and be kind to fellow players and staff.

Keep track (if you want to).
Scorekeeping is optional. If you’re playing a casual round, feel free to skip the numbers and just have fun.
